August PAYE Reconciliation Seminar

The final details of the requirements to submit and reconcile mid-year tax certificates are expected to be finalised before August, and will be discussed in a short but practical seminar during August.

More information is now required on the tax certificate than before, and the procedures for this first mid-year closing differ from those at the end of the tax year. The e@syFile system will be changed to cater for all the new requirements, and the new procedures will be highlighted during the seminar.

In addition, special procedures to register your employees for income tax, and the interaction between the latest e@syFile system and your payroll system will be discussed, both now and in the future.

New rules to administer the deduction of penalties from employees by employers on behalf of SARS have just been announced. This is a legal requirement and the seminar now includes detail of how this requirement must be administered between SARS e@syfile and your payroll system.

Note that it is a legal requirement for all employers to submit and reconcile tax certificates correctly at the end of August, and failure to do so will result in penalties and interest.

A comprehensive set of notes are part of the value that you get for attending this seminar, and will provide you with a reference manual to assist you through this first mid-year employer’s filing season.

Essentials of the BCEA

Back due to popular demand! A one day seminar focussing on providing essential labour law knowledge to payroll administrators, HR professionals and line managers

The Basic Conditions of Employment Act is the most fundamental of all the labour legislation that every employer works with daily. It is vital that the responsible person in your organisation knows the ins and outs of this Act which forms part of every single employee’s contract of employment, at every level in the organisation. Mistakes and incorrect interpretations are costly, bringing the risk of back pay and penalties.

Correct understanding gives you control of payments on your wage bill, avoid abuse of medical certificates and allows you to get your own back in case of theft or negligence

Not only is practical knowledge of what’s in the BCEA essential for legal compliance, but it can be a positive tool for management if used properly.

Seminar Highlights

You will learn everything you need to know about the BCEA as well as specific focus on the following areas:

  • Definitions
  • Normal hours and overtime
  • Annual leave
  • Family responsibility leave
  • Deductions
  • Calculating pay amounts
  • Retrenchment
  • Who is covered

  • Can I insist that someone uses up their leave in the notice period?
  • What constitutes a medical certificate?

  • Can I retrench a woman away on maternity leave?
  • What proof can I demand for family responsibility leave?
  • Do I need to have a written contract of employment?
  • Can I deduct notice pay from an employee who resigns with immediate effect?
  • How do I deduct from pay for an employee who causes me loss through negligence or theft?
